L'Absinthe ; 1876 ;  Edgar Degas

I guess I've always had an infatuation with absinthe, ever since I began researching classic artists, because somewhere, somehow the nefarious beverage seems to appear in their timelines, credited for their glorious inspirations or their untimely downfalls; however, the alcoholic (supposed) hallucinogenic has never been legal in the States during my lifetime, and if it is here, it's a watered-down, missing-the-best-part facsimile.

Here is a collection of my favorite absinthe-themed paintings (I guess 1901 was a "good year"), in order of my preference. If you follow me on Google +, you have seen the first posted painting because I use it as my cover page, but the others, well...enjoy...and watch out for the "green fairy"...I hear she's very unforgiving and relentless.
