Just Desserts vs. Just Deserts

“JUST DESSERTS”

An expression, pronounced /dih-zurts/, supposedly meaning “which is deserved”; however, does everyone deserve delicious, sweet treats? This spelling of the common phrase is incorrect, although widely utilized, so should I care? Of course.

“JUST DESERTS”

An expression, pronounced /dih-zurts/ as well (as opposed to /dez-erts/), meaning “which is deserved”; this correctly-spelled phrase is the last refuge of an obsolete meaning of "desert," namely “a deserved reward or punishment.”
