British vs. English


BRITISH

An appellation applied to persons or entities from Great Britain (England, Scotland, and Wales).

ENGLISH

An appellation applied to persons or entities from England.

Basically, if someone or something originates from England, Scotland, or Wales, the title of “British” may be applied. If someone or something originates from only England, the title of “English” may be applied; however, from what I have heard around the block, persons from England do not care so much to be referred to as “British.”

NOTE: The above British flag, “King’s Colours,” was retired in 1801 for the new flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, “Union Jack” or “Union Flag,” as seen below:
