Take Me Home, Country Roads; John Denver; Poems, Prayers, and Promises, 1971
I remember the first time I heard this song: My older brother started a paper route, and so on Sundays he'd pay me $10 to sit in the car and follow him on his route so he could save time. The car radio was stuck on AM, and the only working station played a talk show...its opening sequence included this song. I hated getting up at 4:30 am on a Sunday when I was in high school, but somehow, knowing I would hear this song made the job more tolerable. I didn't find out the artist of the song until many years later (the Google wasn't an option in those days), but now I own a copy of John Denver's greatest hits; it's still one of my favorite and most played complete albums.
